Physiotherapy for older adults in Lugano-Paradiso

Staying on your feet, safe and independent

Strength and balance can be trained at any age. Physiotherapy helps older people prevent falls, recover after a hospital stay or surgery, and keep doing their daily activities on their own. We see you at the practice or at home.

Booking for a parent or relative? You can contact us yourself: we will arrange the first assessment together.

What we treat

Concrete goals, chosen together: getting up from a chair without help, climbing stairs, going out for a walk safely.

  • Balance and fall prevention For people who have already fallen, are afraid of falling or feel unsteady when walking.
  • After a hospital stay Regaining strength and independence after a stay in hospital or a clinic.
  • Joint replacements and fractures Rehabilitation after hip or knee replacement and after a hip or wrist fracture.
  • Osteoarthritis and joint pain Reducing pain and keeping knees, hips, back and hands moving.
  • Loss of strength When your legs "don't hold you up" like they used to: well-dosed training restores strength at any age.
  • Home visits When getting out is difficult, we come to you: we also look at safety at home.

How we work

  1. 01 Listening and assessment We listen to the person and, if they wish, to their family. We measure balance, strength and walking with simple tests.
  2. 02 Everyday goals Together we choose what matters: doing the shopping, tending the garden, visiting the grandchildren.
  3. 03 Tailored exercise Balance, strength and walking, at an intensity suited to the person and increased gradually over time.
  4. 04 Continuity A simple programme to follow at home and, when physiotherapy ends, personal training to maintain the results.

Three myths to bust

People say "At my age you don't recover any more" In reality Muscles respond to training at any age. Even at 80 or 90, strength and balance can be improved.
People say "To avoid falling, it's better to move as little as possible" In reality Moving little weakens your legs and balance and increases the risk of falling. The right kind of movement protects you.
People say "A daily walk is enough" In reality Walking is good for you, but preventing falls also requires specific balance and strength exercises.

Do you also offer home visits?

Yes. If getting out is difficult, physiotherapy can take place at home. With a medical prescription specifying home treatment, this is also covered by basic health insurance.

Can I book for a family member?

Of course. Write to us or call us: we will agree on a day and time together and, if you wish, you can be present at the first assessment.

Is the practice accessible?

Yes. There are 4 steps at the entrance, but the practice can also be reached by a ramp suitable for walkers and wheelchairs. The parking space is about 6 metres from the entrance.

Is physiotherapy covered by insurance?

Yes. With a medical prescription it is covered by basic health insurance, minus the deductible (franchise) and co-payment.

Let's talk it over

Write to us on WhatsApp or call us Monday to Friday: together we will find the most convenient option, at the practice or at home.

All we need to book is a name and availability: we go through the health details together during the assessment.
